1909 Edward VII Perth Mint 22 Carat Gold Sovereign Coin

A very nice example of a 1909 dated British Sovereign coin, in very fine condition.

The coin is made of 22 carat (916) gold and weighs 8 g. It shows on the obverse the bust of King Edward VII, and on the reverse, the image of a horse-mounted St George fighting the Dragon. It has the initials PB for the designer Benedetto Pistucchi. It is also marked P for the Perth Mint.

The sovereign is a gold coin of the United Kingdom, with a nominal value of one pound sterling. Struck from 1817 until the present time, it was originally a circulating coin accepted in Britain and elsewhere in the world for its bullion value. It is now a collector’s or bullion coin and is sometimes mounted in jewellery.
