Product Description

A rare vintage award badge that was awarded in the Netherlands for shooting prowess.

It is called the Bols Snippen Club, later changed to the Shooting Times Woodcock Club. To quality, you had to shoot a brace of (2) Woodcocks within seconds, with the right and left barrel of the shotgun. The feat had to be witnessed by 2 others. Shooting woodcock (Snippen) is difficult given the camouflage of the bird and the fast low flight in areas with plenty of cover. Originally the distiller Bols awarded them with a bottle of Apricot Brandy. When Bols pulled out, the Shooting Times stepped in, with a bottle of Whisky. Hunting for Woodcock has been banned in the Netherlands. The club disbanded in 1983 due to a lack of members.

The badge is made of 835 grade silver, a green enamelled oval with BSC, surmounted by 4 feathers. The reverse shows 2 double split pins. It is stamped NFS and 835. It has been engraved LID No: 1131 and dated 27.12.1965. The badge comes in its original box. It is marked on the inside PUTTELAAR - Prinsengracht 292, Telef. 32208 – A’DAM C. On the underside of the box is written in ink 1131 Mortimer (the recipient’s surname). Condition is mint unused.
