Product Description

A nice original, over 2000 years old, Chinese Bronze Pointed Foot Spade Coin.

This type of spade coin, which dates around 300 B.C. had pointed feet, a square crutch, and shoulders that pointed upwards or straight. The weight and size of larger specimens is compatible with the one ‘Jin’ unit of the arched-foot spades. The coin has a lovely green patina of age and wear and it is difficult to determine the markings, apart from the lines and triangles. The coin has been turned at a later date into an amulet or pendant, by drilling a small hole. These coins are associated with the Kingdom of Zhao and have been found in other provinces that came under the rule of the kingdom of Zhou, so are often attributed to the latter. Later, the Warring States sees an amalgamation of the many states, making it harder to be sure of the coin’s origin.
