Product Description

A fascinating example of an 19th century Inuit Eskimo Walrus ivory carving of a kayak canoe in very good condition.

The carving depicts a detailed Inuit Seal hunter’s kayak with the harpoon and sealskin harpoon float. The paddles are set perpendicularly to the kayak. What is very particular about the carving is the figure, which isn’t the traditional Eskimo hunter, but a Westerner, wearing a top hat to dispel any doubt. It may have represented a Westerners trying out the kayak. The figure can be removed and is complete with his feet and stands up.

It is rare to see carvings of this quality outside of museums. A very desirable piece.
