Product Description

A nice quality, late 19th century Meiji Period, Japanese large carved ivory Okimono statue of a male performer balancing a small boy on his head.

The boy is carrying what appear to be cymbals. The carving is beautifully done with a fine depiction of his clothing. The man stands on a wood stump. The face is beautifully expressive, and the details are highlighted in black ink.

The ivory, which looks like originating from a walrus (Odobenus rosmarus). The okimono follows the natural curve of the tusk. It is signed with the artist’s mark Yushan .

Condition is very good. There is a small age stress cracks, but are on the back, where you don’t notice it.
