Product Description

A nice quality, late 19th century Meiji Period, Japanese large carved ivory Okimono statue of a country peasant woman carrying a bundle of Lotus stalks on her head and a flower head in her hand.

The carving is beautifully done with a fine depiction of her clothing. The woman stands on mound with plants at the base. The face is beautifully expressive, and the details are highlighted in black ink.
The ivory, which looks like originating from a walrus (Odobenus rosmarus). The okimono follows the natural curve of the tusk. It is signed by the renowned artist Tamano’s characters.

Condition is very good. There are a couple of hairline small age stress cracks, but are on the back where you don’t notice them.
