Product Description

An excellent quality 19th Century British leather clad 4 draw spotting telescope, in good condition.

The leather is standard brown military and includes the front and back caps with loops for a leather carrying strap, however the strap is no longer present. One of the draw tubes is engraved Hodgson Pascoe, Penzance.

Pascoe was a watchmaker active throughout the 19th Century. Shown in the 1841 Census to live in the Famous Egyptian House on Chapel Street, he was likely the retailer rather than maker, and the fact the telescope is not marked Pascoe and Son means it is originates from the mid 19th Century.

The optics are nice and clear and provide good magnification. The front has a sliding lens cover. There is a bruise to the brass body and the leather has dried and pulled away from the ends from repeated use, the end caps pushing back from a snug fit.
