Product Description

A fine and unusual example of a c1925 Siebe Gorman & Co. London, 6 bolt diving helmet in good condition and with the patina of age.

The helmet is made of copper and brass and was part of the Anthony Pardoe Collection and is featured in his seminal work 'Diving Helmets and Equipment Through the Ages' (Volume 1, page 77).

The helmet is unusual in that it has 4 circular observation windows, of which the top one has a cross guard. The inside is stamped 15383 and it has its lashing eyes, side hooks, rear air inlet and telephone, side outlet with inside head button. There are 3 old remnants of attachements to the top back of the crown. The corselet has the front and rear hanging bolts for weights and the brails have PATENT and FRONT and BACK stamped on them. Although there isn't a maker's plate on the helmet, it is definitely a Siebe Gorman and as such amongst the most desirable of diving helmets.

The Anthony & Yvonne Pardoe collection encompassed over 160 traditional diving helmets and was considered the 4th largest in the World. As the helmet was photographed in the book in its present condition, we have felt that it was more appropriate to sell it as it is and not clean of polish it.
