Product Description

A well made circa WWII Japanese 12 bolt tinned copper and brass diving helmet by Kimura, in very good condition.

The helmet has 3 windows, of which the 2 oval side ones have criss cross guards. The circular front window unscrews with 2 lugs. There is also a rear air inlet with non return valve, spitcock, air outlet with head purge, interior ducts and comms, telephone cable connection to rear. Surprisingly, the 4 brails and neck rings are stamped. The corselet has the brails held down by butterfly wing nuts. There are studs to suspend the weights and the maker's plaque on the front.

Kimura helmets were made by the Nagasaki Iron Works.

This helmet was part of the Anthony and Yvonne Pardoe collection and is featured in their diver's bible 'Diving Helmets and Equipment Through the Ages' (pages 218 - 219 of volume 1). The collection was recognised as the fourth largest in the World. As such, we have not cleaned or polished it and left it with the patina of age as pictured in the book.
