c1983 Limited Edition Cased Octant by Burke Jones of Bristol

£350.00

A fine quality modern marine Octant that has been produced as a high value limited edition commemorative piece.
The octant is made of ebony wood and plated brass and is an exact reproduction of a c1790 English original that was made by Burke & Jones of Bristol. The octant is in mint condition and comes with its handmade storage case and the accompanying paperwork. The edition was limited to 750 examples and was constructed by the St James’s House of London, trading as The World of Scientific Instruments.
Octants are an earlier version of the definitive marine Sextant, which helps mariner’s find their position (latitude and longitude) at sea. They are still required to be carried on ships, in case all other forms of geo-location fail.
