Product Description

A very well made, beautiful and original looking 19th Century Victorian copy of a c1500 German Sallet Helmet.

This is the archetypal helmet worn by Knights during the Renaissance, giving a high level of protection from lance or close combat. The design has become iconic and was revived in films like Starwars (Death Star Gunners) and Lord of the Rings (Orcs).

The Sallet has a retractable visor and the rear of the neck is protected by a spiny lobster tail 3 section rear visor. The helmet skull is a one-piece construction in steel, with a separate retractable visor. There is a slit for the eyes, but no ventilation holes on either side of the face.

The Sallet is heavy, being made by thick steel. The quality is very superior to most Victorian copies, and could easily pass as original, if it were not for the very good condition. All the fittings and studs are irregular showing that helmet has been constructed in traditional manner, without the regularity of modern tooling. The steel has just the right amount of wear and age toning making the Sallet absolutely original looking.
