Product Description

A very nice pair of cast brass Brighton Bun Candlesticks with circular dishes.

Designed for travelling or campaign use, they come apart and stow away, leaving a doughnut shape which resembles the now unknown Brighton Bun. This makes it easy to pop into a pocket or bag. A Brighton Bun consists of two drip-pan bases that screw together in such a way that they form a circular bun. When unscrewed, the bases divide into two equal halves, revealing two loose candle cups. When upturned, the drip pans form the bases for two chamber candlesticks into which the candle cups are screwed.

Invented in the mid - 17th century, they continued to be used right up to WWI, by explorers, travellers, military officers.
