Authorised by Imperial Edict of 2nd March 1898 officially communicated by the Tsung-Li-Yamen to the British and German Legations in Peking, secured upon the revenues of the Imperial Maritime Customs of the Treaty Ports of China - A Certificate for a Gold Loan Bond of £25 (Pounds Sterling).

The certificate is written both in English and German, with the Imperial seals of the Chinese authorities. The agents for the issue are the Deutsch - Asiatische Bank, in Berlin. The total value of the loan is £16 Million (Pounds Sterling). The Gold bonds promise an annual return of 4 1/2 percent. It is numbered WE040789.

The certificate is quite large and has been folded. It has been framed and glazed, but has the top edge overlapping the glass, which has bruised and slightly torn the paper. Condition is fair.
