20th Century Native American Navajo Silver Concho Belt

A beautiful hand crafted Native American Navajo Sterling silver (925) Concho belt.

The belt is made up of 12 silver bosses looped onto a black leather belt, with a silver hook style buckle. The silver is decorated in Navajo organic designs. The inside of the buckle is nicely stamped up with ‘Sterling NAVAJO – MARY RITA PADILLA – R. Martinez’.

The Concho belt is adjustable. The conchos bosses have sliders that allow them to be spaced, depending on the size of the waist. The names refer to the Native American Indian artists located in New Mexico, but this type of jewellery extends to Arizona as encompasses Navajo, Hopi, Santo Domingo, Apache and Zuni country. Some also originates from South Dakota (Oglala Sioux). The hallmarking tradition is relatively new and didn’t normally occur before 1950. This belt most likely dates from the 1990s and is guaranteed original Native American made.
