Product Description

A rather unusual piece of scientific history. It looks almost like a Pocket Watch, but is an antique Pedometer.

By counting your steps and translating them into yards and miles, the dial registers zero to 12 miles by ¼ mile increments. It is made by the French company Henri Chatelain, of Paris and dates from 1900 -1910. The pedometer opens up to show the mechanism, which is a spring loaded cam that moves in time with the carrier’s strides. There is an adjuster for the length of stride. The inside is stamped H C Brevete. The face is white with Arabic numerals 1 to 12. There is a button on the top by the suspension ring to reset the distance back to zero. The body is finished in an anodised dark grey silver. It is in good working condition.
