Product Description

A nice interesting and rare Australian Scouting group dating from around 1935 and consisting of badges, pins, leather belt and pennants and button, all related to the first International Australian Jamboree, in 1935, and period scouting memorabilia.

The first 3 badges are for the 1st Australian Pan-Pacific Jamboree that was held in Frankston (Victoria, Australia) between 27th December, 1934 and 13th January, 1935. This Jamboree was the first international gathering of Scouts outside Europe (12,000 Scouts took part) and the only Australian Jamboree attended by Lord Baden-Powell. One badge is in pressed aluminium, the second is a round white metal badge with a long pin and the third is a silk woven breast badge. All of them show a kangaroo and the Fleur de Lis and AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE FRANKSTON VICTORIA 1935. The pin badge has the maker’s details of STOKES MELB. (Melbourne) on the reverse. There is also a pressed brass diamond shaped badge with ‘HIKES 1935’ on the outline of Australia; a small round badge with a memorial and ‘BACK TO COROWA’; and a silk woven badge with a sailing ship and a whale (unmarked but has written on the back MIDDLE HARBOUR SYDNEY N.S.W.).

The belt is the standard brown leather belt as supplied by Leckie, of Walsall. It has had dry seal stamped badges applied to the leather at meetings, jamborees or hikes. The first is difficult to make out, but seems to be of mountains with P.H., within a flag on the summit, and 29. The second is for the 1935 Australian Jamboree. The third is dated 1935, with the Australia HIKES 1935 emblem.
There are 3 pennants. The largest (17 x 38 cm) has the International Australian Jamboree of 1935 emblem on green and yellow felt, on both sides. The second pennant has ‘The Chalet – Mt. Buffalo NATIONAL PARK – Victoria – Australia, in white on dark blue felt, on one side only. The third is smaller and the map of Australia above a Fleur de Lis, with a spear piercing the State of Southern Australia. Written around the image is ‘AUSTRALIAN CORROBOREE NATIONAL PARK. ADELAIDE S.A..The pennant is in green felt, with the emblem on both sides. The pennant has suffered mothing at the flagpole end.

Finally, there is a brass Scouting button. It has the central Fleur de Lis with ‘THE BOYS SCOUTS QUEENSLAND – BE PREPARED. On the back are the maker’s details: A.J. PARKES – BRISBANE.
All items, apart from the last pennant are in very nice condition.
