c1935 Royal Navy Issue Oldham's Brass Safety Miner's Lamp

Price:

£150.00

Product Description

A very heavy duty pre-WWII Oldham Mining Safety Lamp made under contract for the Royal Navy.

The lamp is very sturdy and made of brass with an inner electric battery that was enclosed with a sophisticated lock. This was to ensure that it couldn't be opened accidentally anywhere where a spark could cause an explosion. The system to open relied on a combiation key/spanner and magnet (we haven't been able to open it).

The lamp has the Admiralty Pattern number A.P.202755 stamped on the body. These lamps were very important when, for example, checking the batteries on submaries.
