c1780 Sterling Silver Mother of Pearl Folding Knife & Fork

A rare George III Cased Sterling Silver and Mother of Pearl Folding Fruit Knife & Fork.
The mother of pearl panels are beautifully shaped and are inlaid with oval shaped cartouches engraved with the contemporary script initials AH on one side. The blades are clearly marked with the duty mark head of George III, the lion sterling mark. There is no date or maker’s mark, but the set dates from around 1786-90. The knife and fork set was most probably used when travelling and could be folded away when not in use. Both pieces are in excellent condition. The condition of both the knife and fork is very good. The period original carrying case is made of red leather over cardboard.
