1897 Sterling Silver Photo Frame by Wm Comyns & Sons

A fine quality, substantial 1897 Sterling silver (925) Photograph frame in good condition.

The photo frame is surprisingly plain and simple in design, at the same time as built for a rugged life, given the heavy gauge of the silver (about 200 g), and was most likely made as a military campaign piece. The frame has a silver swivel rest to balance it on a flat surface. Both the frame and the rest are hallmarked with the London Assay mark and the date stamp of 1897. The maker’s mark is that of William Comyns & Sons, of Beak Street, London W1.

Condition is very good. The photo inside is a BBC press photo of Jan Francis and Paul Nicholas in the series ‘Just Good Friends’.
