1906 Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell by Wm Aitken

A very attractive looking Edwardian English Sterling Silver (925) Capstan Inkwell with a glass insert, by the silversmith William Aitken of Birmingham.
The silver inkwell has a very broad weighted circular base offering it a very stable platform that will not spill over. The body narrows as it rises tapering into a narrow neck, with a flared lip and a hinge lid. Inside the neck is a small glass insert to hold the ink. On the top of the lid is a beautiful engraved set of initials (PSF). The silver is hallmarked with the stamp of the Birmingham Assay, with the date of 1906 and the maker’s mark of William Aitken of Vyse Street, Birmingham. Condition is extremely good.
