1744 George II Sterling Silver Nutmeg Spice Shaker Pot

£250.00

A very good example of a 1744 George II Sterling silver (925) shaker pot, most likely used for nutmeg or other spices.
The pot stands on a pedestal foot and the pierced top has decorative slits and not holes. It has been engraved with a family crest representing a demi rampant lion holding a rose, of the Rose family. The underside of the base is stamped with the London assay marks and date of 1744. There is also the silversmith’s mark of Samuel Wood. The inside of the pot has remnants of a brown powder. The condition is very very good for its age.
