1913 Captain Scott of the Antarctic Death Scroll New York State

A unique parchment scroll from the New York State Assembly honouring the death of Captain Scott of the Antarctic.

The scroll - hand-written and illuminated - was one of two made by the New York State Assembly in honour of the death of Captain Robert Falcon Scott. One was presented to the widow of Scott, whilst the other remained/remains in the New York state assembly records. This scroll has come from the descendants of Captain Scott.

The scroll is addressed to the “people of the British Nation” and offers the “sincerest sympathy and condolences” from the people of New York. The scroll is signed by both the Speaker and Clerk of the New York State Assembly.

The parchment scroll is excellently framed and the parchment itself is in good condition aside from a slight tear at the top from where it has been unrolled unevenly in the past..

A chance to own a touching piece with remarkable historical importance.
