Product Description

A rare and desirable piece of Scouting memorabilia comprising of a woollen Khaki shirt for a British Troop Leader who attended the 1935 first Australian Jamboree, held in Frankston, Victoria.

The shirt has the very rare woven square badge over the left pocket, with a kangaroo above a fleur-de-lis Scout emblem and surrounded by: AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE FRANKSTON VICTORIA 1935. The pocket has the Boy Scouts woven badge and 3 white vertical stripes, denoting the rank of Troop Leader. On the right side is the woven Union Jack above UNITED KINGDOM badge. The right shoulder has the woven Group name tape: COUNTY SCHOOL – 17TH WESTON-S-MARE – UNITED KINGDOM and the woven khaki proficiency badges for Swimming, Bee Keeping, Carpentry, Book Reading, Cooking.

There are two metal badges: St John Ambulance Association and the Royal Life Saving Society. On the left hand side is the woven Wyvern badge of Somerset and an original pre-war 'Rover Scouts shoulder knot'. There are also Life Saving and Modelling Proficiency badges and a nice Boy Scouts embroidered badge. Finally there is a Bushmans green and yellow rope thong. The shirt is made by BUKLA British Manufacture and is size 4. The owner’s name tag reads F WHEELDON. The condition of the badges is very good, but the shirt has had fraying and mothing, to the bottom. This would not show if the shirt was tucked inside trousers.

The 1st Australian Pan-Pacific Jamboree that was held in Frankston (Victoria, Australia) between 27th December, 1934 and 13th January, 1935. This Jamboree was the first international gathering of Scouts outside Europe (12,000 Scouts took part) and the only Australian Jamboree attended by Lord Baden-Powell. Surviving badges of this event, whether metal or cloth are very rare.
