Product Description

A very rare and unusual Ancient Egyptian Glass Pendant Amulet that has the impression of a lion, representing the god Maahes.

The glass pendant has a D shape, with the flat area having a loop to allow attaching a cord. The front piece has had a stamp in the shape of a passant male lion. Considered to have powerful attributes, lion deities were associated with the pharaohs, and became patrons of Egypt. The male lion hieroglyphic was used in words such as "prince", "mashead", "strength", and "power". Condition is good, with just a little nibbling to one side.

Maahes was considered the son of Ra with the feline goddess Bastet, or of another feline goddess, Sekhmet, and was an ancient Egyptian lion-headed god of war, whose name means "he who is true beside her". Maahes was a deity associated with war, protection, and weather, as well as that of knives, lotuses, and devouring captives (the old traditions are the best).
