A very interesting selection of photos and paperwork pertaining to the acclaimed British Mezzo-soprano Josephine Veasey CBE.
The paperwork consists of a letters from Prince Charles, thanking Miss Veasey for coming to Buckingham Palace, in order to attend and sing at the famous concert pianist and music director Georg Solti’s 80th birthday celebrations. With the letter are the Palace Invitation, official programme (with a foreword and signed by Prince Charles), the Presentation Card and the Supper Card. There are 2 letters signed by Georg Solti, thanking Veasey for attending and also presenting her with a copy recording of event. The last letter is a handwritten letter from Solti’s wife Val, congratulating Josephine on receiving the CBE. There are also large black and white photographs of Josephine Veasey with Solti, as well as her shaking hands with Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, though not all at the same event.

Josephine Veasey CBE (born 1930) is a British mezzo-soprano, particularly associated with Wagner and Berlioz roles. She established a career as one of England's leading opera singers in the 1960s. Her teacher was Audrey Langford, and she started singing professionally as a member of the chorus at Covent Garden in 1949. She joined the more populist organization Opera for All to get solo experience. She made her debut as a soloist at Covent Garden in 1955 as the Shepherd Boy in Wagner's Tannhäuser, moving on to such dramatic mezzo roles as Preziosilla in Verdi's La Forza del Destino and the title role of Bizet's Carmen. Noticed and encouraged by Georg Solti, she began adding Wagner roles to her repertoire, notably Waltraute and Fricka in Die Walküre, the second of which she recorded for DG under Herbert von Karajan). Other major roles included Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde, Venus in Tannhäuser (opera), and Kundry in Parsifal. She also became notable for her portrayal of Dido in Berlioz's Les Troyens, Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde, Octavian in Strauss's Rosenkavalier, and Herodias in Strauss's Salome.

Meanwhile, the versatile singer maintained her French and Italian repertory, including Charlotte in Werther, Marguerite in Berlioz's concert work The Damnation of Faust, and Verdi's Don Carlos. She was awarded the CBE in 1970. In 1972 and 1973, Colin Davis, by then director of Covent Garden, placed her in alternating casts for Les Troyens as both Dido and Cassandra. In 1976 she sang the role of The Emperor in the world premiere of Henze's We Come to the River. She had the reputation of being a ringing mezzo with the power to project over heavy orchestration, and she was known as a serious actress.
