1898 Coldstream Guards Regimental Sergeant Major Walking Cane

A very nice looking and quite rare Victorian Regimental Sergeant Major’s Walking Cane of the Coldstream Guards.

The cane is made of malacca wood, with a Sterling silver pommel and a brass and steel chape. The silver has been repousse embossed with the badge of the Coldstream Guards Regiment with: 3RD BATT. COLDSTREAM GUARDS within a scroll. The silver is hallmarked Sterling by the Birmingham Assay office and is dated 1898. It has the maker’s mark of F, but we cannot recognise it. The bottom of the cane is stamped with the owner’s military number 2651711 and 2ND C.G..

We have traced the number to Warrant Officer Class I Regimental Sergeant Major E. Ardron of the Coldstream Guards, who was still on the General List in Oct 1940. The condition is very good, although the top of the silver pommel has received a few dings.

Size cane: 91.5 cm (36 inches)
Weight: 197 g
