c1760 George III Mahogany Inlaid Serpentine Cutlery Box

A beautifully made mahogany cutlery box dating from the early years of the reign of King George III, circa 1760.

The cutlery box stands on 3-clawed feet and is made from mahogany wood with a ‘fiddleback’ flame. It has been inlaid with boxwood and ebony and finished with mid 18th century brass fittings.

The interior of the box follows the same serpentine style but for an inlaid nautical star to the inside of the lid.

Generally the condition of the box is very good, though it is missing a small section of beading on its back corner.
