c1820 Leather Clad Steel Bound Dome Top Sea Chest

An impressive old sea chest that looks as if it has just come out of a pirate story.

The chest is made of wood that has been clad in leather and strengthened with tinned steel straps. It has the traditional domed lid and is decorated with dome head pins. The chest may in fact be older than we think, with period embellishments such as the wrought iron handles.

Condition is very good for its age. The inside has a lovely patina to the pitch pine but the lock is no longer working.
