c1825 Pair Portugal Silver on Turned Chestnut Wood Snuff Boxes

A rare pair of cylindrical shaped, turned Chestnut Wood Table Snuff Boxes, which sport the old style coat of arms of Portugal, on the lid, surmounted by the Royal Crown.

The silver has the Portuguese assay marks for Porto (P), but is hard to see. The family that originally owned the pieces had lived in Porto in the 1st half of the 19th century. The style of the boxes is very similar to English Georgian versions, with the exception of the wood used. Condition is very good, apart from a chip on the inside rim of the wood, which is not visible when closed. Very desirable pieces.
