Product Description

A beautiful, fine quality Georgian Rosewood and Brass Banded Travelling or Campaign Writing Box, that was professionally converted in the early 1900s into a Jewellery Box.

The Rosewood has a reddish pronounced flame which makes it look like a rich mahogany. There are 16 angle bands of gilded brass to strengthen the box to the rigours of travelling. The box has a lock design that was created by Joseph Bramah in 1784. The design is the first known high-security lock. The secret side draw has been blocked off.

The box has been very sympathetically converted professionally to become a Jewellery Box. They have chosen red leather, in keeping with the original decoration of the inside and made neatly fitting stacking trays, with purple velour and silk lining. There are 3 tray/boxes, of varying depth, with a tray tabs for holding brooches, some ring channels and a board for hatpins. Apart from a bit of wear to the velour and the original Georgian leather, the box is in remarkably great condition.
