c1880 Harewood & Kingwood Veneered Smoker’s Tobacco Box

A very unusual and attractive mid to late 19th century, fitted mahogany Smoker’s Tobacco box.

It is veneered in a light coloured Harewood (stained sycamore) with ebony banding. It opens up to reveal a top tray of 6 lidded compartments. The lids are made of Kingwood, which is similar looking to Rosewood, and would contain the different blends of tobacco. There is another compartment underneath, for smoking paraphernalia. The box could also be used a tea caddy or a sewing box.

Condition is very good.
