c1880 Victorian Graphoscope Table Top Image Viewer

A beautiful Victorian antique Graphoscope Viewer in good condition.

A graphoscope is a device that was used in order to enhance the viewing of photographs and text. The c1880 viewer is made of walnut wood, with a large round lens at one end and a photograph holder at the other. The base has a folding strut, that allows the angling of the Graphoscope in order to make viewing easier. The viewer is designed so that the lens can be removed and a stereoscope can be fitted instead. The frame folds up to a compact rectangular form when not in use. The fretsaw work on the photo holder has suffered a bit of damage and the lens has caught the sun at some time and burnt a couple of marks in the wood. One of the little bone finial buttons on the slider is missing.
