c1900 Victorian Oak Tantalus n Games Compendium


An impressive and attractive looking completely original late Victorian Tantalus and integrated Games Compendium in excellent condition throughout.

The Tantalus id made of a honey coloured oak, with rococo brass banding and decoration. It has 3 cut glass square decanters with faceted cut spherical stoppers. The space for the 3 decanters is backed with a mirror to reflect their glory. In front 2 folding doors open to reveal a two-part section containing 3 Shot glasses, 2 Sherry glasses and 2 tumblers. Underneath, there is a drawer with a secret lock, consisting of a hidden rod in the glasses compartment. It opens to reveal the Games Compendium. This includes a set of Dominoes, a Chess set, a couple of unopened playing cards and some dice. The Tantalus has a Squire Lock. The key is made of forged steel and has the maker’s mark WILLENHALL, STAFFS. ENGLAND.
