1979 Beryl Cook The Art Class Limited Edition Signed Print JCE


An early signed and framed limited edition Beryl Cook lithograph print entitled ‘The Art Class’, published in 1979 and numbered JCE.

This is the Guild of Fine Art numbering that corresponded to 725/850. The print bears Beryl Cook’s hand signed pencil signature and the details of ‘Alexander Gallery Publications Ltd., Bristol, England’ – sole publishers of Cook’s work since 1977. It shows a group of female amateur artists at a life painting class, with the work of one of them being appraised by the other two, that are also trying not to laugh.

Beryl Cook (1926 - 2008) is probably Plymouth's most famous artist of the 20th century and is best known for her tongue in cheek representations of Plymouth social life . Her distinctive style, with large portly ladies and men, is hugely popular, making this a desirable piece for any enthusiast.

The print is nicely framed and glazed and very good condition.
