A rare, signed and framed limited edition Beryl Cook silkscreen print titled ‘The Dancing Class’, published in 2000 and numbered HC 1/6, which is a very small run of 6.
The HC signifies ‘Hors Commerce’ and makes the print even rarer than an Artist’s Proof. The were produced to supply to select galleries as a commercial sample. The normal run of the print was 300, which was also very small. The print bears Beryl Cook’s hand signed pencil signature and was produced by Flanagan Graphics in the USA. It shows 3 women in a tapdancing class with jazz hands. It is part of the paintings that Beryl Cook did whilst visiting America.
Beryl Cook (1926 - 2008) is probably Plymouth's most famous artist of the 20th century and is best known for her tongue in cheek representations of Plymouth social life. Her distinctive style, with large portly ladies and men, is hugely popular, making this a desirable piece for any enthusiast.
The print is nicely framed and glazed and very good condition.
