Product Description

An iconic and scarce signed silk screen lithograph print by the World famous Plymouth artist Beryl Cook (1926 - 2008).

The picture is titled ‘Tea in the Garden’ and depicts a group of 5 mature men and women in a garden, seated at a table, drinking tea and eating sandwiches and cake. The scene would be perfectly normal, if it wasn’t for the fact that they are naked, apart for the rather grand hats the ladies are wearing. Beryl Cook's is nearly always a 'tongue in cheek' critique of Plymouth life, but with an element of warmth and humour. Her characters are always portrayed on the voluptuous side.

The print run was limited to 650 examples, and this numbered 49, which being a low number is more desirable. The condition of the mounted print is good. It was produced and published for the Alexander Gallery Publications Ltd, of Bristol, England. The example is numbered, titled and signed in pencil by Beryl Cook.
