A rare and highly sought after book which is a photographic archive (1968 - 2002) on one of Plymouth's most famous artists of the 20th century, Robert O. Lenkiewicz (1941 - 2002).

The book is titled ' A Portrait of Robert Lenkiewicz' by Dr Philip Stokes and was produced in two editions. This is the Collector's Special Edition and was limited to 225 copies. Specially bound, it has a distinctive silver dust cover and a presentation slip case. The Collector's edition also contains an exclusive limited edition print of the iconic cover image of Lenkiewicz holding Jacques Derrida's book 'The Truth in Painting'. It is generally known by the book title and was photographed in the Barbican Library Philosophy Room, in 1988. The print will not be reproduced again, in any form. The book and print have a certificate numbered 94/225.

Condition is as new/mint.

The book is in a large format of 32 x 32 x 2.5 cm hardbook and contains 180 pages, with over 400 images, many reproduced in full page. There are many photographs of Robert in his studio painting his models and muses. The photographs were taken by the author Dr Philip Stokes who was a Senior Lecturer in Photography at Nottingham University until his retirement in 1997. He had also a Doctorate from Exeter University. The two met in the late 60s and Dr Stokes followed Lenkiewicz's progress, keeping a photographic record. He was an expert in the law concerning censure in Art and Photograpphy and was interested in "the dark mystery of the persona and place, life and death" (British Journal of Photography). Consequently, he found Lenkiewicz an ideal subject. Dr Stokes died quite soon after Lenkiewicz.
