Product Description

A rare, hand-coloured mezzotint entitled “The English Gentleman at Paris” printed for Carrington Bowles on the 17th of April 1772.

The print depicts a pair of grotesque-looking men: a Parisian chef on the left and an English aristocrat on the right. Both wear elaborate powdered wigs. The chef appears to be serving the portly aristocrat from a large cast iron pan.

The bottom of the print bears the following details: “Printed for Carrington Bowles, Map & Printseller, no. 69 in St. Pauls Church Yard, London. Publish’d as the Act directs, 17th April 1772.”

The condition of the mezzotint is very good, having been mounted and glazed in a solid wooden frame.
