Product Description

A large pair of lithographs, published by the Institute of France in 1987 to honour the American natural history artist John James Audubon.

The prints were engraved by Jacque David and printed on fine ‘BFK Rives’ paper by Leon Amiel Printers of New York and Paris. Produced in a run of 300 and hand coloured by the Parisian colourist Jacomet, the prints show the Louisiana tricoloured Heron standing at the bank of a meandering river.

Each coloured lithograph was originally sold alongside a black and white example. It was hoped that together, they would demonstrate the artistry of the colourist and the skill of the engraver. For this reason we are unwilling to split the pair.

The rectangular impressed border left by the copper plate can still be seen on each lithograph.

Size: 105 x 75cm (41½ x 29½”)
