c1755 View of Mount Edgcumbe from the Block House Plymouth Print


A large copper engraved print of Plymouth, published in 1755, entitled 'A View of MOUNT EDGCUMBE from the Block House.

The print is by the renowned engraver James Mason (1710 - 1780), after the original by George lambert (1700 - 1765) and Samuel Scott (1702 - 1772). The engraving shows the view out to sea and Mount Edgcumbe, Cornwall, from the Citadel Fort, on Plymouth Hoe. It has not been coloured and is glazed and framed.

Condition is very good for its age. there are a couple of chips to the corners of the frame. On the reverse is a guarantee label from the Plymouth retail shop Foxsmith Galleries, that sold it in the 1980s.
