c1822 Print View Plymouth Dock & Mount Edgcumbe by L Byrne

An original etching by Letitia Byrne after the drawing by Joseph Farington, c.1816.

The print is hand coloured and shows the view facing east from Torpoint, in Cornwall. Immediately in front is the naval dockyard in Devonport and on the other side of the Tamar estuary (Hamoaze) is Mount Edgcumbe. The estuary has several hulks, frigates and what may be a rigging training barge. The copper print has been mounted, framed and glazed, protecting the print from damage. It was part of the Lysons Devonshire series, so has a central fold. It was published by T. Cadell, of the Strand, London, in 1822.
