A hand coloured woodblock print by Ogata Gekko (1859-1920), dating from the middle of the Meiji Period (1868-1912).

Though sometimes entitled “Two loving Pigeons”; an example in the Smithsonian Museum, Washington DC is given the title of “Two Doves.”

Ogata Gekko (1859-1920) was a Japanese painter, printmaker, and winner of numerous prizes. he exhibited at the Chicago World Fair in 1893 and it is often said that he was the earliest Japanese artist to develop an international following.
