Product Description

A rare pencil-signed lithograph of two Cocker Spaniels, by the famed animal painter and sculptor Leon Danchin.

Leon Danchin (1887-1938) was a French painter and sculptor of animals. Born in Lille, he studied at the College of Fine Arts in Paris and was accepted by the Salon Des Artists at the age of sixteen. His work was hugely popular in both Europe and North America.

The lithograph shows the heads of two cocker spaniels, one black, one white and black. The brown eyes have been finished by hand. Around the edge of the lithograph, the imprint left by the copper plate engraving can be seen. Beneath the mount, the paper is stamped ‘Arches France’ with an infinity sign.

The condition of the lithograph is reasonable, though there are areas of foxing around the edges and above the brow of the black spaniel.
