c1880 Bronze Sculpture of a Rottweiler Dog

A beautiful bronze sculpture of a powerful looking guard dog, probably a Rottweiler that has had his ears clipped.

It is similar to some of the Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but the slight ruff around the neck suggests longer hair. The dog is in a naturalistic seated position. The statue is made of dark brown oxidised bronze, which has been further decorated with a golden collar chain attached by a golden padlock. The quality of the workmanship is extremely good. The dog is mounted on a dark reddish polished serpentine stone rectangular base. Condition is very good.
