c1900 Burmese Polychrome Wooden Statue of a Woman

£400.00

An attractive late 19th century Burmese Polychrome Wooden Statue of a Woman in reasonable condition.
The wooden statue is carved in the form of a standing woman with her hands holding her skirt dress at the height of her hips. Her dress is a mixture of black, red, green and gold with flower decorations, contrasting with her ochre skin. The paint is applied to a buff colour gesso on the wood. She also wears her hair up in a chignon or bun, slanting to one side and sports large earrings. Despite the naivety of the design of the figure, she has a lovely elegance. Condition is reasonable to good with wear to the paint revealing the gesso underneath.
