Product Description

A fine set of 4 part-leatherbound volumes dated 1936, titled ‘MEMOIRS OF NAPOLEON’, by Louis Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne (1769 – 1834), who was a close friend and private secretary to Napoleon.

They are not First Editions, as the memoirs were first published in 1930, but are the preferred 2nd Editions. They are an account of the important events of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte of France, from his youth, through his rise to power, the Wars to Waterloo, Napoleon's surrender to the English, and of his residence and death at St. Helena. With anecdotes and illustrative notes from all the most authentic sources.

The volumes are complete, including a selection of engraved plates with portraits of important protagonists and illustrations of events. The 4th volume has an index of names. The 4 volumes are bound in half leather bands with marbled edges. Ties decorated on back in gold print. With black title plates. The books are published by Richard Bentley, of 8 New Burlington Street, London. Dated 1836. Condition is good, but there is wear to the covers and a certain amount of foxing and water staining, although this doesn’t detract from the attractiveness of the books.

Size each volume: 22 x 14.5 x 3 cm (8 5/8 x 5 ¾ x 1 3/16 inches)
Weight: 2730 g
