The half calf red book has the title and border in gold lettering. The spine is sound and the contents are in good used condition with only one page having been partially torn and period taped. There is some foxing to the first pages as well as the odd creases to some corners.
Auguste Escoffier compiled the 950 page book of over 5000 French recipes he invented, whilst working at the Savoy Hotel in London and the Ritz in Paris, in the late 1880s. It is still used today by top French chefs, French palaces, and high-end restaurateurs. This internationally renowned book is considered the ‘Bible of traditional French cuisine’ and has served as a classic recipe reference resource. It was originally published in 1903 and then in 1907 with amendments and extra recipes. The recipes were often created and named for famous patrons including royalty, nouveaux riches, and artists.
