Product Description

An interesting panoramic photograph of the pupils and staff of Hoe Grammar School, in Plymouth.

The photo is dated February, 1921. Approximately 90 of the pupils are wearing Boy Scout uniforms, being members of 18 Troop. They wear the broad rimmed felt hat made popular by General Robert Baden-Powell. He was the hero of the Defence of Mafeking and later created the Boy Scout Movement.

Hoe Grammar School was started in 1867, by Alexander Simpson Hendry and was situated in Lockyer St, the Hoe in Plymouth. The School was destroyed by the Blitz. German bombing raids of WWII all but flattened the school and it closed in April 1941.

The photograph is framed and glazed and is in very good condition. The frame is worn, but intact. The photograph was produced by Panora Ltd. 60 Doughty ST, London WC1
