Product Description

A good hardback example of ‘ARTHUR RACKHAM’S BOOK OF PICTURES’ by William Heinemann Ltd and printed by Richard Clay & Sons Ltd.

The book was first produced in 1913, with this being a subsequent impression in 1927. The book is bound in brown cloth with stamped gilt lettering and decorative design in gilt to spine and front cover. The book shows light external wear, with mild discolouration to the inside edges on some of the pages. There is a dedication ‘To Dorothy from Felix – Xmas 1933). Otherwise, the binding is firm. The interior is clean and without markings. Work contains textual illustrations and 44 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue guards. There is an introduction by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, who is best known for his monumental publication ‘The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250–1900’, (later extended to 1918) and for his literary criticism. There are 44 plates with captioned tissue guards.

Arthur Rackham's works have become very popular since his death, both in North America and Britain. His original drawings and paintings are keenly sought at the major international art auction houses.
