c1896 Pictorial Britain Shakespeare’s Land Large Book

A large c1896 quality bound book called PICTORIAL GREAT BRITAIN – SHAKESPEARE’S LAND.

It is a collection of engraved lithograph prints of scenes and places related to William Shakespeare. It was published, engraved and printed by Stanislas Walery & Co. of 164 Regent Street, London W. (Photogravure plate engravers to H.R.H. the Princess of Wales), via Chiswick Press – Charles Whittingham & Co..

The book has its contemporary half grey calf on leather effect boards with calf corners. The spine is gilt ruled into six compartments with gilt stars. The title is in gilt on the front cover. The book is not dated, however the 12 illustrations are dated 1896 and have an accompanying written description. The condition is very good, as it came with another outer cover, that has protected it. The book appears to be very rare, and we have not been able to find another example of it online. The prints are known, and perhaps explain the rarity, as they would have been removed in order to frame them.
